Ideas And Suggestions On Getting New Kitchen Cabinet Hardware

April 28th, 2010

If you are painting cabinets, glazing, or staining them, one thing you will want to consider is getting new hardware.  There are numerous options when it comes to handles, pulls, and knobs.  The same is true with cabinet hinges.  Below are a few pointers for choosing hardware for your kitchen cabinets.

1)      If your doors are taller, then you may want to go with a handle, set horizontally, that makes them look wider.  For wider doors go with a knob or handle, set vertically, that makes them look taller.

2)      Make sure that the position of your knobs, handles, or pulls is where you want them.  If they need to be repositioned, fill the holes with wood putty, sand the area smooth, drill holes where you want them to be, and re-set them before you start your refinishing project.

3)      Get a sample of your new door and drawer facing.  You can use this to see if a knob, handle, or pull works best AND to determine what type of finish or color will compliment your new cabinets.

4)      Ask if you like inside hinges or outside hinges.  This is a matter of personal preference, but some may look better than others depending on the shape of your cabinets and the overall look of your kitchen.

5)      Look at pictures of cabinets online and in magazines at the home store.  See what grabs you.  Make a “New Kitchen Cabinets” file and put pictures of cabinets you love in it.

Kitchen cabinet hardware options abound.  There are many styles, colors, and finishes to choose from.  Here are some of the more popular ones and cabinet finishes that each of them goes well with:

Oil-Rubbed Bronze

A bronze look with a dark finish over it.  Some of the bronze shows through giving it a beautiful and elegant look. Oil-rubbed bronze goes well with many all over glaze looks and glaze only in the grooves

Brushed Nickel

Very hot finish now for cabinets.  This will go with various looks, colors, and styles.  Among the finishes you may want to consider are a glaze only in the grooves finish and a rustic look.

Stress-Free Domestic Removals

April 15th, 2010

Moving house can be a terrible ordeal that is ranked up there with the most stressful experiences of life. You have to make sure everything is packed, you have to arrange to get it moved to your new place, you have to get used to a new place and find new places for all your things and you have to get used to not being in the place you’ve thought of as home for so long. Not only that, but most people use moving as a chance to de-clutter and get rid of all the junk that has accumulated over the years.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably find yourself getting right up to moving day and not having done nearly enough packing, sorting or clearing out. So, if you’re anything like me, you just go crazy with bin bags, stuffing everything you can get rid of into them without a second thought as to how they should be disposed of. Then, on moving day, you inevitably find more stuff that you missed or forgot about and discover that you haven’t got enough room in your car.

It sounds like a simple thing to say, but this is why domestic removal companies exist. As long as you get all your packing done, and separated from your waste, then you shouldn’t have too much to worry about on moving day other than getting used to a new home. If you get a good removals company, hopefully they will do ecologically sound removals, using recycled cardboard boxes and being careful to recycle any waste that can be recycled, so you needn’t worry about the extra load you wouldn’t normally be placing on the environment.

If you live in East Sussex, an excellent removals company to give a call is the Brighton Removals Company, who will do a full property clearance if need be (including carpets, curtains, wall and floor fixtures) and make sure that what is recycled can be recycled. All you have to worry about is getting there.
